Different, not "better." Both have caffeine. The difference is what comes with it, matcha has L-theanine, which slows the caffeine release. That's why you get 4 to 6 hours of steady energy instead of a 45-minute spike and crash. Whether it's "better" depends on what you want from your daily cup.
Probably. Most matcha sold in Australia is low grade, stale, dull green, bitter. MatchaFlow is single origin from a small farm in one small single estate farm, stone milled within 24 hours of harvest. It tastes clean, slightly sweet, vegetal. If you've only had bad matcha, this will be a different experience.
Barnie, the founder. It's a founder led brand built in public. I source it, pack it, ship it, write the emails, and reply to your DMs. If you message us, you're talking to me.
One small farm in one small single estate farm. Both grades come from the same farm, Ceremonial from the first spring harvest, Premium from a slightly later one. Single origin, no blending.
Yes, 100% organic certified. Also vegan and kosher.
Ceremonial is the first spring harvest, smoother, sweeter, made to drink neat with just water. Premium is a slightly later harvest, fuller bodied, built to hold its own in milk and recipes. Both ceremonial quality leaf, different use cases.
If you drink matcha lattes, smoothies, or iced, start with Premium. If you want to drink it neat with just water, or you want the most refined cup, go Ceremonial. Or try the bundle and decide for yourself.
25 to 30 cups per 40g bag, depending on how strong you make it. About a month of daily use.
Yes. About 60–70mg per cup, similar to a small coffee. But because of the L-theanine, it doesn't feel like coffee, no spike, no crash.
Use within 4 weeks of opening for best taste. Reseal the pouch tightly and store in the fridge.
The pouches are made from mixed materials, not curbside recyclable yet. We're working on a fully recyclable version for early next year. In the meantime, REDcycle drop-offs accept them.
2g of matcha into your bowl. 40ml of water at 75°C. Quick W motion with a bamboo chasen until a smooth layer of foam appears. Drink straight or top with milk for a latte.
Boiling water makes matcha bitter and burns off some of the flavour. 75°C is hot enough to extract, cool enough not to burn the matcha, let the kettle sit for a minute after it boils, or top up with cold water.
It works better than anything else, the bristles break up clumps and create the foam. A metal milk frother works in a pinch, but a $15 chasen will last a year and make your matcha taste better.
Not recommended. Matcha oxidises quickly once whisked, it loses flavour and turns flat within a few hours. Make it fresh; sixty seconds is all it takes.
Yes. Oat milk works best, creamy, neutral, doesn't fight the matcha. Almond can taste a bit watery. Soy is fine. Cashew is great if you can find it.
